FAQs
How does Botox® work to reduce wrinkles?
You can reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles with Botox® because it targets the underlying cause of expression lines. When you smile, frown, or squint, your facial muscles repeatedly contract. Over time, these repeated movements cause lines to form in the overlying skin. Botox® works by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that tell specific muscles to contract. When those muscles relax, your skin appears smoother and less creased. You still maintain natural facial expression, but the treated areas look softer and more refreshed. Results typically begin to appear within a few days, with full improvement visible in about one to two weeks.
What areas can Botox® treat?
You can use Botox® to address several common areas where dynamic wrinkles develop. Most often, you treat forehead lines, frown lines between your eyebrows, and crow’s feet around your eyes. You may also use Botox® for subtle brow lifting or to soften fine lines around the mouth, depending on your needs. During your consultation, you discuss your concerns and identify the areas that bother you most. Your treatment plan is tailored to your facial structure and aesthetic goals so that you achieve balanced, natural-looking results without appearing stiff or overtreated.
What is the difference between Juvederm® and Juvederm Voluma™ XC?
You use Juvederm® products to restore lost volume and smooth moderate to severe facial folds. These fillers are made with hyaluronic acid, which attracts and retains moisture beneath your skin. Traditional Juvederm® formulas are commonly used to soften nasolabial folds, enhance your lips, and reduce marionette lines. Juvederm Voluma™ XC, on the other hand, is specifically formulated to add volume to your cheeks and midface. Its thicker consistency allows you to achieve a subtle lift and improved contour in areas where age-related volume loss has occurred. The choice between products depends on the area you want to treat and the type of enhancement you desire.
How long do Botox® results last?
You can typically expect your Botox® results to last about three to four months. Over time, your body gradually metabolizes the product, and muscle activity slowly returns. As movement resumes, lines may begin to reappear. With consistent maintenance treatments, you may find that your results last longer and that lines appear less severe over time. Scheduling follow-up appointments at appropriate intervals helps you maintain a smoother, refreshed appearance year-round.
How long do Juvederm® fillers last?
You may enjoy results from Juvederm® fillers for six months to a year or longer, depending on the specific formula used and the area treated. Products used in the cheeks, such as Juvederm Voluma™ XC, can often last up to two years. Factors such as your metabolism, lifestyle, and the amount of product placed can influence longevity. Periodic touch-up treatments help you preserve your desired look.
Are injectable treatments painful?
You may feel a brief pinch or slight pressure during your injections, but discomfort is generally minimal. Many Juvederm® fillers contain lidocaine to enhance your comfort during treatment. You can also request topical numbing if you are concerned about sensitivity. Most patients tolerate treatment well and describe it as quick and manageable.
Is there any downtime after Botox® or dermal fillers?
You can usually return to your normal activities immediately after your appointment. You may notice mild redness, swelling, or slight bruising at the injection sites, but these effects are typically temporary and resolve within a few days. Following post-treatment instructions helps you minimize side effects and enjoy smooth, natural-looking results.
