When performed by a qualified and board certified plastic surgeon, facelift can help turn back the clock and make you feel like a younger and more confident version of yourself. Considered the gold standard in facial rejuvenation, facelift offers the most comprehensive results of all the facial plastic surgery procedures because it corrects several facial aging signs in the middle and lower facial areas. Depending on your needs, facelift can correct sagging skin on the cheeks, jowls and neck.
Through his many years of training and experience, Dr. Mark A. Foglietti has refined his surgical technique. This has led him to develop the Foglietti Natural Vector Facelift Technique. This innovative technique allows Dr. Foglietti and Dr. Foglietti Fostyk to refine the deep tissues of the face in a precise and gentle manner for a noticeable and long-lasting result.
Am I a Candidate for the Foglietti Natural Vector Facelift?
You may be a suitable candidate for the Foglietti Natural Vector Facelift if you are bothered by any of the following:
- Sunken or hollow cheeks
- Sagging, hanging skin on the mid-face
- Jowls or slackened jaw line
One of our surgeons will meet with you individually to discuss your aesthetic needs and goals for treatment. Facelift can be combined with other surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures to achieve more comprehensive results. For instance, it can be performed in conjunction with eyelid surgery and/or brow lift to address aging signs on the upper facial area in addition to the middle and lower facial regions. Botox or dermal fillers may also be recommended to improve or maintain results with facelift. Our team will help you navigate all of your options so you can make the best decisions in regard to your facial rejuvenation goals.
Facelift is performed with anesthesia. The Foglietti Natural Vector Facelift Technique is performed using incisions created along the inside of the hairline that extend to the front of the ear, under the earlobe to the back of the ear and ending behind the scalp. The skin is lifted to access the underlying tissues of the face, known as the SMAS layer. The tissues are sculpted to create a smoother and youthful appearance. After excess tissues and skin are excised, the remaining tissues and skin are tightened in multiple natural vectors (directions). The surgeons are meticulous in their approach to avoid an overly pulled or tight appearance that is often a result of a poorly performed facelift. The neck area will be sculpted as needed to create a better defined jawline. Once all of the agreed-upon modifications have been made, the incisions will be closed using sutures.
An expertly performed facelift can last for many years. To maintain your rejuvenated appearance, it is recommended that you practice healthy lifestyle habits. This includes eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, wearing sunscreen and not smoking. Our team can provide you with additional tips to prolong your results.
What is the Foglietti Natural Vector Facelift®?
Patients in the Cleveland area and throughout the U.S. often choose Foglietti Fostyk Plastic Surgery for their facelift after hearing about Dr. Mark Foglietti’s pioneering surgical innovation, the Foglietti Natural Vector Facelift®. The procedure is the result of years of training and experience, and addresses many of the issues that lead to disappointing results with traditional facelift, such as the dreaded “windswept” or “open cockpit” look. Patients who choose Foglietti Natural Vector Facelift® don’t look “done,” but rather achieve a natural-looking enhancement that is at once subtle and dramatic.
How is the surgery performed?
The Foglietti Natural Vector Facelift® tightens the facial tissue covering underlying muscle in multiple directions, or vectors. This counteracts the sagging that typically occurs as we age. The tissue is then returned to its original, younger position. After this system of tightening, the skin is gently positioned over the naturally-arranged muscle layers, resulting in a smooth and supple appearance as opposed to the severe, tightened look often seen in facelift surgery.
The procedure takes only a few hours. Under general anesthesia, your surgeon makes incisions along the inside of the hairline that extend to the front of the ear, under the earlobe to the back of the ear and ending behind the scalp. The skin is lifted to access the underlying tissues of the face.
Dr. Foglietti and Dr. Fostyk always take great care to avoid an overly pulled or tight appearance that is often a result of a poorly performed facelift. The neck area will also be sculpted as needed to create a better defined jawline.
Will I feel post-operative pain?
Most patients experience minimal pain after this procedure because it is done in such a precise, gentle and efficient manner.
How soon will I be able to resume regular activities?
Because the facial tissue is handled with extreme care, bruising is minimized considerably; and this facilitates prompt healing. Most patients can shower and wash their hair within 48 hours of the surgery. The average recovery period is 10-14 days. This allows time for the sutures to be removed and any negligible swelling or bruising to diminish. Most patients can return to work in 14 days, safely and with confidence.
How long will the results of facelift last?
In general, facelift performed by a skilled plastic surgeon will last about 10 years. The range of results is dependent upon the type of facelift you choose, the suppleness of your skin and certain lifestyle factors, such as whether you smoke. Limited procedures such as the so-called “mini facelift” may last two to four years; and revisions may last up to seven years. Facelift takes years off your appearance, resetting the clock on the natural process of aging. Facelift also has the effect of slightly improving the strength and resiliency of the skin, helping to preserve your rejuvenated look into the future.
If I notice droopiness in a few years, will it be necessary to repeat the procedure?
When your facial skin needs a touch-up, there are many noninvasive options to consider. Laser resurfacing can smooth and tighten the skin, and injectables will fill lines, wrinkles and hollows on your face that make you look older. New varieties of dermal fillers not only add volume to targeted facial areas, but also trigger the production of collagen, the natural protein that adds strength and flexibility to the skin.
Do men get facelifts?
According to data from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, facelift was the fourth most popular facial plastic procedure for men in 2019, after eyelid surgery, nose surgery and neck surgery; and the second most popular facial plastic surgery for women, after eyelid surgery.
The experienced Cleveland-area plastic surgeons of Foglietti Fostyk Plastic Surgery are skilled in tailoring facelift to the preferences and unique facial anatomy of men. Key considerations are placement of incisions and taking care not to detract from the natural masculine lines of the face. Men typically prefer shorter hair styles, and so hiding the scars of facelift requires both artistry and surgical precision. Men are also more likely to fear the prospect of a facelift that looks “done” or unnatural, and therefore prefer less change in facial contours.
