Breast Augmentation (Breast Enlargement)

INDICATIONS:  Breast enlargement surgery is indicated in patients that are requesting larger breasts fuller breasts.  Some patients have naturally small breasts and they would like a larger cup size. Patients who have been pregnant and have experienced deflation of their pre-preganancy breast volume may want to restore the appearance of their breasts.  There are also a large number of patients who have asymmetric  breasts (difference in size) and would like to have surgery to make their breasts more even in size.

SURGERY: The surgery is performed on an outpatient basis. The size (volume) and type of implant (saline versus silicone gel) are chosen by the patient and the surgeon to best meet the needs of the patient.  The approach is also discussed and decided upon by the patient and the surgeon.  The most common incisions are inframammary (within the breast crease), axillary (in the armpit). or periareolar (at the bottom of the areola.

Placement of the implant is subglandular (above the muscle), submuscular(covered by chest muscle), or a combination of both. The best placement is also decided upon by the surgeon and the patient. Each patient requires an examination and discussion to determine which method suits their needs and body type.

POST OPERATIVE COURSE: There is mild pain associated with the procedure. A prescription for pain medication and an antibiotic are commonly given to the patient to take for a week. Most patients can return to work in a week.  Placement of an implant under the muscle can be more uncomfortable initially, compared to placement above the muscle. Exercise or anything that raises your heart rate and blood pressure, is not permitted for 3-4 weeks after surgery. Patients will be fitted with comfortable bras to wear for several weeks after the procedure.  Swelling and mild bruising are common, many times on one side more that the other. It can take months for the swelling to resolve, but an excellent result is generally evident within weeks.

RISKS: Risks and complications of the procedure will be discussed at the time of your consultation. Examples of before and after photos will also be shown.

All of our procedures are performed using our proprietary Logical SequenceSM methodology.
